Timeline: some time in early September 2010
I received a call from Victor Kara proposing that we join team Sahara4x on a journey from Budapest to Bamako (Mali West Africa) to raise awareness and funding for Fragile X syndrome.
After an immediate call to Regina(who is brilliantly supportive) I returned the call to Vic informing him that we are go for launch.
So what next???? The rules of Sahara4x are that the car must cost about 1000 English pounds, and the car will be donated to a Charity in Bamako before flying home. The awareness and funding raising cause is clear, but we will also be distributing mozzie nets to the needy en-route.
Fast forward to a few days later....location Victopia in Alsace France. Over a wonderful brunch followed by feet up with cigars and malt, we started scanning ebay uk for our chariot. We soon focused our attention on a 1997 Land Rover Discovery diesel. Only a quarter of a million kms on the clock......lovely. We fired a pleading email to the seller, who agreed to sell it to us, and he promptly removed it from the auction. Cheers Gary.
Forward some more to today...Nov. 9th. Regina, Vic and myself will fly to the Uk on Saturday and pick up the car. We have dubbed ourselves The Disco Knights. As soon as we have pics, you will see them. We will also pick up numerous spares for the journey, and will attend an injection party.....watch this space for a future report.
More to follow later.
